ABOUT

The Riverside Elementary School Library has a collection of over 19,000 books and audio-visual materials. Elementatry students in grades K-5 attend Library Class in the Elementary Library once every five days. Students in grades 2-5 may borrow two books at a time. Students in grades K and 1 may borrow one book at a time.  Students may renew a book as long as there are no other holds on that book.  Students should bring their library books to class each week, even if they intend to renew them.

The Riverside Elementary School participates in the Accelerated Reader program.  Library books are color coded to help students to choose books that will best help them to grow as a reader.  For more information about the A.R. program, please click here.

VOLUNTEERING

Volunteers are an important part of our Elementary Library and we need you! As a volunteer you will probably spend much of your time shelving books that have been either checked out and returned or used by our students in the Library. Last year we circulated over 35,000 books and other materials in the Library. You will also check books in and out for students and staff, as well as other tasks such as:

  • Read shelves to make sure books are in the correctorder

  • Help students and staff use the library catalog and locate books

  • Straighten books on shelves, put chairs in order, and pick up papers or trash on floor/tables

  • Make copies and refill copy paper

  • Check shelves for missing or overdue books

  • Pull books or A/V materials requested by teachers

  • Help create bulletin board or book displays

  • Assist with Book Fair

  • Assist with inventory

  • Other projects and tasks as requested by the librarians

If you you love children and have basic computer skills, you will enjoy spending time in our Elementary Library!  Please contact Mrs. Timko for further information.
